Early Intervention

Taralye offers services to promote oral education for young children with hearing loss using hearing aids and cochlear implants.

The majority of children with a hearing loss can develop speech and language through listening.

However it is essential that:

  • any suspicions about deafness or hearing loss are investigated
  • a child's hearing loss is identified as soon as possible in order that
  • a child can be fitted with the best amplification or listening device
  • families and children with hearing loss receive early specialist support in their child's pre-school years

Our early intervention program is based on the following principles:

  • Early diagnosis of hearing loss
  • Optimal fitting and use of hearing devices
  • Oral speech and language development
  • Partnerships with families
  • Language development through play, parent-child interaction & everyday life experiences
  • Early literacy experiences
  • Children with hearing loss learn alongside their hearing peers

At Taralye, support and information is provided to families with children with hearing loss between the ages of 0-6 years. Taralye's statewide services include:

· A core program located at Blackburn in the Eastern Metropolitan Region of Melbourne operating Mon-Fri.

· Spoke sites located in the Northern and Western Metropolitan Regions of Melbourne.

· A Rural and Regional Program visiting multiple sites throughout Victoria.

At Taralye, early intervention programs support the best possible language outcomes for children with hearing loss by working in partnership with parents to enable children to achieve their full potential.

Our services will continue to grow in response to family needs.
