Audiology & Otology Clinic
Since 1997, Taralye has provided an Audiology and Otology service for children at risk of hearing loss and for the wider community.
The service is available for children aged from birth to 18 years.
Services include:
- Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) medical consultancy
- Full range of hearing tests including: behavioural observation audiometry, visual reinforcement audiometry, play audiometry, auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing, auditory steady state response ASSR) testing, otoacoustic emission testing, tympanometry and speech reception tests
- Outreach hearing screening service for preschool children
- Statewide professional education program
- Post graduate training for
- Mould impressions for ear/swimming plugs
The Taralye clinic is a recommended provider of diagnostic audiology for those infants who receive a “refer” result through the Victorian Infant Hearing Screening Program (VIHSP).
In addition, the clinic has a focus on early diagnosis of hearing loss through assessment of infants who have identifiable risks for hearing loss. These infants make up approximately 10% of the neonatal population and are typically identified by Maternal and Child Health Nurses or by hospital paediatricians.
Infants at risk for hearing loss and those referred via VIHSP are referred to audiologists for electrophysiological tests - commonly referred to as ABR/ASSR. These tests are objective and can give a good indication of hearing levels.
The community and family friendly environment of Taralye and easy parking make Taralye a preferred location for many families requiring testing of their newborn infant.
