  • How Can You Help?

Since 1968, Taralye has been a leader in the development of services to children with impaired hearing and deafness. The total cost each year to help one child to learn to speak is approximately $13,000, and in 2010, Government subsidies contributed approximately 44% of total service costs. We need your support to provide this service.

    Taralye Outback Adventure

In May - June 2011, 36 people flew to Cairns and travelled by hired 4WD vehicles to Cape York. They visited Port Douglas, Cooktown, Coen, Weipa and Seisia, the most Northern point of Australia. They then travelled by ferry to Thursday and Horn Islands and flew back to Cairns to board another ferry across to Fitzroy Island.

Re grouping with their cars back in Cairns, they then travelled south to Mission Beach, Magnetic Island and Airlie Beach where they boarded 6 yachts to sail the Whitsunday Islands for 4 days, finishing at Whitehaven Beach and Hamilton Island.

Graeme and Lesley Giddings (pictured below left) are the grandparents of Elise Black. The trip was organized by Graeme to raise money as a thank you to Taralye for their expert help and support provided to Elise and her parents, Jodie and Peter Black. Elise was diagnosed as being profoundly deaf at birth and has been at Taralye for almost 6 years.  Elise will attend mainstream primary school next year!!!

With the generosity of all the wonderful people who ventured on this amazing journey, $65,000 was raised for Taralye to ensure that other hearing impaired children will learn to hear and talk and attend a mainstream school just like Elise.
